How to Stay Fit while on a Business Trip

With all ill-equipped hotel gyms, greasy fast foods, cocktail networking parties etc., it is quite difficult to stay fit when you are traveling for business. Not to mention, when you are moving from time zone to time zone, the effects of jet lag could leave you feeling drained, unenergetic, and too unmotivated to get any exercise done. Despite all these hindrances, it is not impossible to stay fit on a business trip and our Westchester Limo Service knows just how you can achieve this. We hope the following tips come in handy.

Hit the Ground Running

When you have just come from a long-haul flight, train ride, bus ride, etc., it may be difficult to motivate yourself to do anything other than relaxing. But like most tasks, the hardest part is always the beginning. Do yourself a favor and on your first day, when you feel the most unmotivated to exercise or eat healthy, push yourself and eat that salad or do those pushups/sit-ups. You will find that you will feel more motivated about maintaining a healthy routine the next day. So hit the ground running!

Use what you Have

Don't overthink things; we know you are used to hitting that gym close to your house, but that does not mean you can’t get any exercise done elsewhere. Business travel demands that you pack as light as you can, so dragging around workout equipment might not be a viable option. Be flexible and exercise in your room using your own body weight; pushups, sit-ups, crunches, squats, and yoga are just a few examples of exercises you can do in the comfort of your own hotel room. However, if your hotel has a fitness facility or a swimming pool, make use of them to get some exercise done and to keep yourself in good shape.

Carry what you Can

We have mentioned that carrying workout equipment on a business trip is not a sustainable option. Nonetheless, not all workout equipment is heavy and cumbersome; pack a light dumbbell, a yoga mat, a resistance band, and the right attire for working out in the comfort of your hotel room. These items are light enough to carry, around and they will keep you motivated to exercise. Without these items, you just might convince yourself to slack off until you get home and you may find yourself getting out of shape, especially if the business trip is meant to last a while.

Stay Active on Commute

Incorporating simple physical activities while you are on a trip will help offset the adverse effect of being inactive for long periods of time. For example, if you are about to get on a long-haul flight, you could travel in your running shoes and take walking laps around the terminal before it is time to board your flight. Also, you could opt to take the stairs as opposed to elevators or you could choose to walk to your meeting venues whenever you can. Small physical activities like these over a long period of time will play a significant role in ensuring that your body stays in tip-top shape even when you are not getting that full-on workout you get back at home.
