4 Free (or Almost-Free) Things to Do in Hudson Valley

Hudson Valley is a friendly travel destination all year round. It is studded with natural beauty, mountains, lakes, parks, family-friendly activities, museums, theaters, exceptional food places, etc. and the best part is, most of these activities are either cheap or completely free. Our Westchester Car Service has gathered up four interesting must-do activities that you can partake in at your own convenience.

Visit Fall Views Park

Fall Views Park is located in Cohoes and is home to the astonishing Cohoes Falls. The park is a four-acre expanse that is full of rivers, falls, and walking trails; it is a stunning natural haven in the middle of a concrete jungle. The Upper Level of the park is easy to access and here you and your companions can enjoy a quiet picnic or go on a fishing trip. For those who are up for a challenge, however, there is a staircase leading to the bottom of the falls. The park is riddled with educative panels that enlighten visitors on the historical and geological significance of the park. This park will avail an unconventional experience that may be hard to find anywhere else in New York.

Try Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art

The Straus family founded the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art for the purpose of developing programs and exhibitions that promote contemporary art and its influence on modern social issues. The center itself is a 12,000 square foot exhibition that hosts both long-term and temporary installations and exhibits from established and upcoming artists. Artists from all over also have the freedom and space to work on long-term projects at the center.

Head Over to the Bardavon Opera House

The Bardavon Opera was officially opened in 1869, which makes it the oldest operational theatre in New York. At the Bardavon Opera House, you can catch performances by well-established dance and theater companies, classic films on Friday nights, Opera performances streamed from the Met on Saturday nights, and regular concerts by top-shelf musicians. It’s the perfect place to spend time for the art lovers, there’s just so much to see and learn.

The Children’s Museum of Science and Technology

This kids’ museum is located in Troy and the best thing about this place is that adults are not allowed inside unless they are accompanied by children. The museum is operated by the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and there is a wide range of exhibits, which includes over 100 animals. All exhibits at the museum are interactive, and kids get to learn how machines function, learn about the Hudson River and its surroundings, try their hand in house construction, learn about Nano technology, and generally have fun while at it. It’s the perfect destination for young families.
