But after all of that is done, why don’t you hurdle up on the couch with the kids and enjoy some festive Christmas films. Home Alone

This is perhaps the most famous Christmas film of all time. The movie tells the story of Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, who gets left home accidentally while his family heads to Paris for a Christmas vacation. Two buglers decide to rob the house assuming that the house is empty and it’s up to Kevin to fight them off and protect the house. This epic comedy movie is one and a half hours long and has been recommended for ages 7 and above.

The Nightmare before Christmas

This is a Tim Burton classic; the film works perfectly for both Halloween and Christmas. The film tells the story of Jack Skellington who is the King of Halloween. Jack is, however, tired of organizing Halloween events every year and he finally escapes after finding a door to ‘Christmas Town’ where he decides to try and run Christmas instead. The film is barely over one hour long and is perfect for very young kids whose attention span never lasts long.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

This movie is a timeless Christmas movie that attempts to address the spiritual aspect of the Christmas holiday season. The story follows Charlie Brown who is initially depressed by the commercialism of the Christmas holiday, but his spirits are eventually lifted when he directs the school pageant and receives a a pep talk from Linus. Kids and adults are sure to enjoy this magical story; the film is a mere 30 minutes long and is recommended for ages 3 and above.

Elf

The Elf is the story of Buddy, portrayed by Will Ferrell, a human who was raised by elves. Buddy travels to New York City after discovering that he is not a tall elf but a human being; he aims to find out who he really is and finally meet his biological father. You will love Buddy's naivety and all the silliness in the film as Buddy struggles to understand human culture. The movie is one and a half hours long and has been recommended for ages 7 and above.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

This is another holiday classic; it is a recreation of Charles Dickens and the Muppets. In this recreation, directed by Brian Henson, Kermit plays Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy plays his wife, and Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge, the misery employer. Gonzo plays Charles Dickens and he helps narrate the story, bringing out a combination of originality and tribute to the film’s predecessor. This film is one and a half hours long and is recommended for ages 5 and above.
